A Wonderful World for Shajib: Medical Reports

My World

My name is Mahmud Shajib. I am 16 years old. I suffer from heart disease -congenital cyanotic heart disease. The doctors in my country Bangladesh have given up on me as my case is serious. I know I will die soon if I do not get medical treatment.

My body aches and I feel pain in various parts of my body, esp. now in my back and chest. My hands, legs and nails are blue in color all the time. I cannot sleep at night from pain. I have difficulty in walking. I sometimes bleed from my mouth and back. The doctor says it happens due to high blood pressure.

A Brother's Sorrow

"He ain't heavy , He's my brother" - I am told was a popular English song, that feels so true to me.

I am Khijir, Shajib’s elder brother. I am 31 years old. I am the third child in my family. I have three sisters, Moni and Reshma who are married and the third a student.

My father died at the age of 46 when I was 16. Mokbul Hossain was his name. He was employed as a clerk in a private company. I remember vividly the days of his death. He became ill quite suddenly and passed away on 6th November 1996. It was a shock to us all. We were left penniless and hopeless with an uncertain future.
